A Perth-based motor trimming company has started an unique range of protective machine deals to the Queensland mining business which are conserving some of the state's highest companies thousands of dollars in replacement parts and preventative maintenance expenses.
Modern motor trimmers has invested over 5 years investigating and creating a range of ram covers for motors and excavators. The 'ripstop' PVC sleeves prevent wear and tear, potentially tripling the life expectancy of ram seals and chroming, and producing essential expense savings.
The covers, which sell for not more than $1,000, have also been designed for coal shoots, rock crushers and dust extractors, and are proving popular with procurement professionals and mine planners who have quickly purchased on the savings and conveniences they offer.
Garry Spouge, the MMT managing director said the covers give security towards stones, dust and salt pitting the machinery's rods, which can lead to the tearing of ram seals. They have been developed to enable easy self-installation by mechanics.
"Installing new ram seals can take few mechanics as much as half a day, and have clear security implications, in particular where cranes or cherry pickers are needed," he said.
"It's obviously a costly exercise regarding manpower as well as with machinery getting down or obsolete for a few hours.
"That's why we've developed our ram covers to be easily installed, they get on and are safe either side by a patented clamp; the complete process usually takes about 45 minutes and can enhance the life of the rod and seals by a couple of times.
"Given that an excavator ram can cost in excess of $50,000, the price savings are very terrific, this is why the need for our covers is fast increasing."
One of the first companies to fit the protective covers to its entire truck fleet was Western-Australia, at its mine in far north WA.
WA anf Rio Tinto in Queensland has simply placed a vast order for the sleeves, which MMT is producing in a range of safety colors, including yellow and orange.
"We're finding that the more progressive companies are seeing the large expense advantages, and our orders have extra by 20 per cent due to the fact first release into the Queensland market only six months ago," Mr Spouge added.
"We're also working with a number of the larger miners to customized layout preventative sleeves for other plant and machinery, and this bespoke, tailor-made service is a place which we can be looking to expand into in the future."
The research and development work undertaken by MMT on the protective ram covers is an add-on to the company's center industry, which is centered on the furnish, installation and maintenance of premium suspension seats and seating products to the Australian mining, construction, engineering, developing and transport sectors.
The industry is Western Australia's only certified provider and repairer for German maker ISRI, which is widely recognized as the manufacturer of the world's most sophisticated driver and passenger seating products.
